Mahindra retailed 35175 units in August 2014

Mahindra & Mahindra, a local manufacturer, retailed 35175 units in August, compared with 37897 units in August 2013. In the passenger car segment (including UV and verito), the automaker sold 14140 units in August 2014, compared with 15821 units in the same period last year.

In addition, domestic sales also saw a dip, because the company launched 33145 units in August 2014, while India's leading SUV manufacturer sold 35159 units in the same period last year. In the four-wheel driving team, the automaker sold 12975 units, while in the tricycle sector, the company saw a 6% increase because it retailed 5433 units compared with 2030 units last year.

Commenting on monthly performance, pramingsha, CEO, automotive division and international business (AFS), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, "Although our overall sales were flat in August, due to the strengthening of the industry, we continue to be optimistic. Business confidence in the manufacturing industry shows signs of revival. We hope that the government will continue to work with the implementation of the reform agenda that will stimulate investment. The auto industry, including the United States, hopes for better demand, leading to the subsequent holiday season.".

In addition, the company also announced that it would invest an additional rupee. 400 billion rupees in Chakan plants in Maharashtra.
