Lebanon receives red notice to question ex-Nissan chairman Ghosn

According to foreign media reports, judicial officials said that on May 30, local time, a judge questioned former Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.A few days ago, Lebanon received a warrant issued by Interpol for Ghosn.

The French prosecutor's office said in April that it issued international arrest warrants for Ghosn and four others, the former chairman of Nissan and Renault, following a 2019 investigation into money laundering and misuse of company assets.And 10 days ago, Lebanon received a new Red Notice from Interpol.

Ghosn was allowed to leave after being questioned on suspicion of money laundering and profiting from Nissan and Renault deals, judicial officials said.Lebanese judge and prosecutor of the Court of Cassation, Imad Kabalan, has asked French authorities to provide details of Ghosn's case, "if there is evidence that Ghosn was guilty of money laundering and misuse of corporate assets", he will stand trial in Lebanon because he Possess Lebanese citizenship.

The red notice is not an arrest warrant and will not require Lebanon to arrest Ghosn.This is the second red notice Lebanon has received for Ghosn's case.The first red notice was issued in January 2020, just days after Ghosn fled Japan for Lebanon.Prosecutors are investigating alleged multi-million dollar payments between the Renault-Nissan alliance and Omani car distributor Suhail Bahwan Automobiles.

Ghosn noted that he had been banned from leaving Lebanon after France issued an arrest warrant.Ghosn holds Lebanese, French and Brazilian citizenship, and Lebanon will not extradite its citizens.
