LG New Energy to add battery R&D centers in Europe

According to foreign media reports, LG New Energy, South Korea's leadingelectric vehiclebattery manufacturer, has reached a cooperation with a German research institute to increase battery technology research and development centers in Europe.

LGNew Energyannounced on June 7 that it has partnered with the Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology of University of Münster and Helmholtz Münster at the Jülich Research Center. The Institute (Helmholtz Institute Münster of Forschungszentrum Jülich) established a research partnership.The two German institutions will participate in a joint battery research project funded by LG New Energy's Frontier Research Laboratory (FRL).

Researchers from the three battery research centers will work together to develop next-generation lithium battery technology using environmentally friendly materials and processes.LG New Energy said in a press release that they will focus on how to improve the performance of the battery, including energy density and cycle life.

LG New Energy has been collaborating with leading research laboratories around the world.Last year, the company established its first FRL program with the University of California, San Diego.The joint research team is currently trying to develop a new type of all-solid-state battery by combining solid-state electrolytes and advanced electrode technology.

LG New Energy is also conducting a joint research project with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology to develop fundamental technologies for next-generation battery elements.The company said they will continue to expand their FRL program globally.
