SAIC-GM-Wuling and DJI jointly build cars, or the new Baojun KiWi EV

On June 9, SAIC-GM-Wuling and DJI announced that the first global strategic cooperation between the two parties has officially landed, and the first mass-producednew energymodel equipped with DJI's in-vehicle system will be launched soon.

In the poster, Wuling said that the new model will bring "intelligent driving that everyone can have" into reality, while showing the general style of the new model, but did not announce the specific launch time of the new model.

Judging from the preview image, the model is likely to be the new Baojun KiWi EV.At the Shanghai Auto Show in April last year, the Baojun KiWi EV DJI co-branded model has been unveiled in the form of a concept car.The co-branded KiWi EV is positioned as an A00-class pureelectric vehicle. Baojun is responsible for the body hardware and DJI leads the development of the software system.

Its biggest highlight is that it is equipped with the intelligent driving controller hardware platform developed by DJI and the system data closed-loop system, which can realize the basic functions of L2-level automatic assisted driving such as adaptive cruise, lane keeping, lever change, intelligent obstacle avoidance, etc. And intelligent parking functions such as autonomous parking.

Previously, Baojun had stated that it would start the warm-up work in the second quarter of this year.According to some media reports, the price of the co-branded KiWi EV is about 100,000-150,000 yuan.

As early as 2019, Wuling and DJI launched a strategic cooperation plan.In April 2021, the two parties announced a strategic cooperation.In recent years, the two parties have invested billions of funds to form a joint development team, combined with the complex traffic situation in China, focusing on the field of intelligent driving, and successfully completed more than 1 million kilometers of road tests.

DJI’s official website shows that DJI Vehicle is a brand under DJI that specializes in providing intelligent driving overall solutions, focusing on the research and development, production, and sales of intelligent driving systems and their core components.According to the company's investigation, DJI has nearly 10,000 patents.

According to public data, DJI’s revenue is mainly composed of two sectors: consumer-grade drones and industrial-grade drones, the former accounting for more than 70%.Affected by the reduction of existing users, the epidemic, and the city's no-fly policy, the growth rate of the domestic consumer drone market has been overtaken by industrial drones, and DJI, which is trapped in the C-end, has gradually increased its revenue pressure.After 2018, DJI strengthened the layout of the industrial-grade drone track, and launched products such as educational robots and handheld gimbal cameras. DJI Vehicle was also established during this period.According to DJI’s plan, DJI will not go off to build cars in person, but will use its technologies such as intelligent perception, AI interaction, obstacle recognition, and intelligent ranging to provide car companies with intelligent assisted driving solutions.
