As digital cockpit experiences continue to be extended to vehicle occupants, cars need to minimize driver distraction.Visteon's patent-pending Active Privacy solution can make the occupant display invisible to the driver in certain situations. This feature can be activated automatically to create a restricted viewing mode that effectively limits the viewing angle of the occupant display.
Visteon's Active Privacy display technology can switch between two modes of operation: a private viewing mode visible to occupants, or a shared viewing mode visible to all vehicle occupants.Viewing transitions between the two modes seamlessly and without optical artifacts. This solution consumes less power than other competing solutions, making itideal forelectric vehicles .
This innovative integrated hardware/software system solution was developed by Visteon's Advanced Display team. This solution enables market-leading privacy performance and is applicable to a wide range of display technologies. The solution is also compatible with system-level content management architectures, as it can be easily scaled to accommodate any display size, aspect ratio, and resolution configuration.
For some applications, such as self-driving shuttles and ride-sharing platforms, both drivers and occupants can view content. But in other cases, to keep the vehicle safe, it must be avoided to prevent driver distraction from entertainment content.
Qais Sharif, Global Vice President, Display Product Line, said: “The technology actively controls the viewing angle and what the driver sees can be programmed to switch depending on the situation. For example, if the vehicle is in reverse, content visibility may be limited, while if the vehicle is in reverse Moving to a parking space, content visibility may expand. We can adjust the viewing angle to suit various vehicle configurations. Most importantly, our active privacy technology will reduce driver distraction from occupants displaying content, resulting in safer driving experience and meeting regulatory standards.”
