Shanghai (Gasgoo)-Great Wall Motor (“GWM”) announced on Wednesday its monthly auto sales reached 80,062 units in May 2022, dipping 7.94% from the previous year, while soaring 48.88% from the previous month.
Despite the year-on-year plunge in overall sales, the EV brand ORA still saw its May sales rocket 199.36% from a year ago to 10,768 units, while the SUV brand TANK also scored a two-digit year-on-year growth.
Presale of the ORA Ballet Cat kicked off on May 20. With a cute retro-inspired design, the all-electric car is expected to further drive ORA’s sales.
HAVAL faced a 22.47% decrease over a year earlier in May sales, but it still outsold other brands. A two-digit year-on-year drop also confronted the May sales of both WEY and GWM Pickup.

For the first five months of this year, GWM sold 417,339 vehicles, representing a 19.36% year-on-year decline.
The downturn in the company's year-to-date sales resulted from the year-on-year decrease in HAVAL and GWM Pickup's sales. Other brands still posted an upward movement in Jan.-May sales.
In addition, GWM reported that its new energy vehicle (“NEV”) sales amounted to 11,637 units in May, resulting in a year-to-date NEV sales volume of 50,910 units.
