Shanghai (Gasgoo)-By the end of May 2022, there had been 3.581 million charging piles deployed across China, up 91.5% from the same period of last year, according to the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA).
For the first five months of 2022, around 963,000 charging piles (+409.5% YoY) were newly built in the country, including 272,000 public piles (+253.8% YoY) and 691,000 private ones (+516.5% YoY).

Last month, around 87,000 public charging piles were newly deployed in China, representing a 60.5% year-on-year leap.
As of May 2022, the volume of public charging piles in China had added up to 1.419 million units, including 613,000 DC piles, 806,000 AC piles, and 485 DC-AC integrated charging piles, the EVCIPA reported after summarizing the data provided by members of the alliance.
There were around 45,000 public charging piles built per month on average within the year ended May 2022.
In terms of the volume of charging stations by May 2022, the top 7 provinces or direct-administered municipalities remained the same as that of the previous month. Guangdong held a significant lead by building 17,164 stations across the province, while both Jiangsu and Zhejiang have over 7,000 charging constructed.
Compared to the rankings of April, Sichuan surpassed Tianjin to the eighth in May, while Henan entered the top 10 list as the replacement of Hubei.
Regarding the amount of charging stations by May 2022, the top seven operators were the same as that of the month-ago period. Notably, there was a fresh player, EVKing, appearing in the top 10 operator rankings.
As of May 2022, China had owned a total of 1,519 battery swap stations, 39 of which were newly built last month. By the volume of battery swap stations as of May, the top four provinces or direct-administered municipalities in China accounted for 74.1% of the country's total volume.
