Renault and Nissan face lawsuits in France over engine problems

Car manufacturing partners Renault and Nissan face a class-action lawsuit from customers in France over problems with the 1.2-liter gasoline engines used in cars built by the two automakers between 2012 and 2016,media reported..

Christophe Lèguevaques, a lawyer for the MyLeo legal platform involved in the lawsuit, revealed that the two companies, Renault and Nissan, had just been notified of the class action lawsuit by about 1,100 people.

The lawyer also added that his client is not currently seeking financial compensation, but as a first step, they want to find evidence to support their claim that the two automakers found that between 2012 and 2016 in 40 European countries. The 1.2-liter gasoline engine used in 10,000 cars should be recalled when there is a problem.

Renault has previously said the engine, which is built in Spain and the UK, uses too much oil, but it added that this does not pose any safety risk.The regulator has not issued an official recall request.The company also said on June 22 that it would not engage in any collective bargaining, but would look into paying customers compensation on the issue on a case-by-case basis.

Nissan said in a statement: "First, we encourage customers who believe they may be affected by this issue to contact their local Nissan dealer who will properly inspect and diagnose the vehicle and provide the customer with the necessary support. "
