On June 23, according to Sina Technology, an internal memo showed that Tesla plans to suspend most production at its Shanghai plant in the first two weeks of July to allow for upgrades.
After the upgrade is complete, Tesla plans to bring the plant to a new recordcapacityby the end of July , approaching its goal of 22,000 vehicles per week.
Caijing.com contacted the relevant person in charge of Tesla China for this purpose, and the other party said: "I have not received such news."
Tesla initially planned to bring the Shanghai plant to a weekly capacity of 8,000 Model 3s and 14,000 Model Ys by mid-May, people familiar with the matter said. However, due to the lack of news of the epidemic, this plan was postponed.
The Shanghai plant has been producing 17,000 Model 3 and Model Y units a week since mid-June.
Cars made at Tesla's Shanghai plant last year are sold at home as well as in overseas markets such as Europe and Australia. These vehicles account for about half of its global deliveries of 936,000 vehicles, according to data disclosed by the China Passenger Vehicle Market Information Association.
Tesla’s official website shows that Model Y buyers in Australia will now have to wait until the first quarter of 2023 for deliveries, while European consumers will also have to wait until the fourth quarter of this year.
