2022 Mitsubishi Outlander earns top IIHS rating for improved lights

At the current sticking point, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) top honor, Top Safety Plus, is the headlights.The 2022MitsubishiOutlander misses out on any of the Top Safety Pick ratings, despite having a solid score in nearly every category, as all models are rated "Poor" for their lighting.However,Mitsubishihas now fixed those issues, and it gets the crossover honors.

This rating applies to Outlanders built after June 2021.LED reflector headlights now have the highest "Good" rating on all trim levels because of reduced glare from oncoming drivers.There's some additional good news for existing owners of Outlanders.They can go to theirMitsubishidealer where they can adjust the target of their existing headlights to reduce glare.

TheOutlanderalready has excellent results in crash testing and crash prevention.It received a "Good" rating in every crash test, and it received the highest possible "Superior" rating for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian collision prevention.Even the child seat LATCH anchor access was rated "good".

The Outlander joins a handful of other small crossovers, including its platform partner Nissan Rogue, with the Top Safety Pick+ award.Other winners include the Ford Mustang Sport, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-3, Mazda CX-30, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester and Volvo XC40.
