Ford's Mustang Mach-E wins Popular Mechanic's Excellence Award

If there is one certainty in the next few years, it is that the automotive world will continue to shift to electric vehicles.And, as the number of electric vehicles continues to grow, they will occupy a more significant space on each awards platform.

Whether it's the well-known automotive trend "Car of the Year" or the "Best of" lists for cars and drivers, electric vehicles will be filled as internal combustion engine (ICE) alternatives take up less and less space in the award lists.No, ICE engines don't make it into the Automotive History Museum.That is, after 2030, they will no longer be a factor.

Take the Volkswagen Automotive Excellence Award.In 2021, four of the winning vehicles are fully electric or hybrid.

ForFord, the honor comes after Volkswagen Mechanics' (PM) "editors and testers" spent "many hours driving thousands of miles to determine the best vehicle for the (and other) role."

The PM plan acknowledges that vehicles "have a special place in the human psyche. Despite their ubiquity, we still tend to see them as a sign of freedom, independence and some degree of self-reliance."

The PM's editors say this is well-founded.“A sedan can be your haven, a way to get out and enjoy the road. An SUV can take the kids to a soccer game, you can go to work, and everyone can take home groceries.
