The new 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS is about to be unveiled

Mercedes-Benzis gearing up to take on the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan and Audi E-tron GT with its luxurious new EQS electric sedan, and new photos of a minimally camouflaged prototype have emerged.

The test car recently ditched the bulky body cladding and fake lights of the previous test mule, giving a glimpse into the headlight and taillight design and overall body proportions.We also recently got our first look inside, and it looks like the EQS will feature the same 11.9-inch center touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital display as the recently revealed 2021 S-Class, largely eliminating physical controls.

Mercedes has confirmed that the EQS has a range of more than 700 kilometers (435 miles).Daimler's head Ola Källenius said the new model would also "set the benchmark" in terms of luxury, comfort and safety.

The EQS will compete with the Taycan and its Audi E-tron GT sibling in the booming premium electric sedan segment.The test mule had a low, curvy roof profile with a slim headlight design among its more pronounced visible features.

EQS is described as the approximate size of the current CLS.Mercedes previously hinted at the styling of the first electric sedan with the EQS Vision concept at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The latest additions to Mercedes' EQ electric vehicle lineup will join the EQC midsize SUV and EQA compact SUV in showrooms later this year.According to officials, the EQS name means luxury, comfort and features that perfectly match the company's traditional S-Class.
