Lexushas showcased its EV ambitions with the radical LF-Z electric concept, which "infuses the drivability, styling and technology thatLexus plans to achieve into its next-generation EV."

Top brands were among the leaders in the first wave of electric production vehicles. It now aims to continue that tradition by launching 20 new or upgraded models by 2025, 10 of which will be hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric.

Lexushas hinted at plans to introduce sports cars, "driver-friendly cars" and "an all-new category of models" as part of this new strategy and will reveal the first two in its lineup later this year.

The LF-Z concept brings new cues to the brand's new-age electric vehicle.Unlike the UX 300e, Lexus' first EV, the LF-Z sits on a new dedicated EV platform and, based on its performance requirements, has a lower sway and less SUV design inspiration.

While the "spindle" pattern on the front of the car references the shape of the grille used on Lexus' current cars, the LF-Z points to a very different design for the upcoming electric Lexus model. However, some of its details will be largely toned down during production, such as the unique wheel arch design and prominent roof fins.

However, Lexus hinted that slim taillights and a new brand identity will be the hallmark of its future EVs, featuring "simple and attractive shapes rooted in strong proportions and a distinctive look".

The interior layout (Lexus calls it the cockpit) suggests that drivers are focusing on the new EV lineup. The augmented reality head-up display and steering wheel-mounted controls seek to minimise driver distraction, while a low-profile display, pillarless doors and a dimmable panoramic roof create a "feel of openness".
