Lamborghini shows us the improvements it made to the Huracan

LE CASTELLE, France -Lamborghini's updated Huracán EVO2 will make its debut in the Super Trofeo one-make series for the 2022 season.Visually, it gets a new exterior design that charts the path that future models -- including production cars -- will follow for years to come.In addition to the facelift, wesat down with Leonardo Galante, who is in charge of technical development inLamborghini 's racing division, to get a full overview of the changes.

"It's a big step from EVO to EVO2 and we're focusing on three main pillars," Galante told us at the Paul Ricard track.Design comes first; aerodynamics comes second, which is closely related to design; braking performance comes third.

Customers and enthusiasts will notice the design before any mechanical changes, so Galante's team worked directly with the company's in-house design department, Centro Stile, to update the Huracán.The lights at both ends are thinner, and the rear unit is embedded in a housing that echoes the rear end of the Countach.Air curtains now flank the front fascia, while a redesigned diffuser dominates the Huracán's rear end.

Centro Stile and Squadra Corse have equal impact on these updates."We learned a lot about shape, about how to make a car look good, and the designers learned a lot about aerodynamics," Galante explained."Together, we determined the optimal shape to produce an effective aerodynamic profile. We wanted to generate as much downforce as possible with as little drag as possible."

Shaping a car's aerodynamic profile isn't as simple as just adding wings, spoilers, vents and pipes to keep it glued to the ground when cornering.Galante emphasizes that the quality of the downforce produced by the various add-ons is as important as the striking figures.His goal was to keep the car as stable and predictable as possible, even as the weight balance shifted under hard braking at triple-digit speeds.Since the start of the series, the feedback provided by the Super Trofeo contestant has helped his team adjust the proper downforce.
