Bentley Continental GT3 Takes Off to Conquer the Climb of Pikes Peak

Obviously, this is Bentley.At first glance, ... it may not be obvious, but this winged beast does have theBentleylogo on it.You see, Bentley is back at Pikes Peak for the third (and final) time.During the company's first two visits, the Bentayga W12 set the SUV production record and the Continental GT set the full production car record.This time around, Bentley is aiming for a Time Attack 1 record, and the Continental GT3 Pike s Peak is its steed of choice.

Ahead of the car's superlative features is theBentley, which is "the largest rear wing ever built byBentley ."We wholeheartedly agree.The aerodynamic package is exactly the same as any other car built specifically for Pekes Peak.Huge wings, massive diffusers, two-wing splitters and aggressive dive planes create maximum downforce.It's more of a track rat than a classy race car, with its myriad buckets and vents.Air vents behind the front wheels complete the Rogue package.There may be Bentley lights on this Continental, but the resemblance to the road car is nowhere near as far.

Details about the engine are limited, but Bentley says it's a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 racing engine, not a production V8 or W12.Modifications have been made to make it more powerful at Pikes Peak, but Bentley has also made adjustments to the fuel that will run in the car.

The group will move away from race fuels and instead use biofuel-based gasoline.We've heard Porsche hype up the potential of green biofuels, which could help reduce emissions drastically, and now, Bentley has some influence on the technology as well.In partnership with Porsche (both under the Volkswagen Group), Bentley is looking at how biofuels and "e-fuels" could potentially power past and future Bentleys.As of today, Bentley says using these fuels can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 85 percent.In short, if it could be used at scale, it would be huge.
