Mahmoud Samara, Cadillac's vice president of sales, service and marketing, posteda photo on LinkedIn of theCadillac Lyriq testing in the upcoming camouflage test. That's important because we haven't seen a single photo of the actual pre-production Lyriq. All Cadillachas shown us so faris a conceptualized version of the crossover that will go into production.
This camouflaged crossover photo gives us our first impression of how Cadillac has transformed the Lyriq from concept to production. It's moving fast, and there's some motion blur in the image, but we've placed it side-by-side with the original production-intent prototype below for your comparison.
In a sense, this photo is a lesson in how to trick the camouflage on a car.The presence and irritation of the unabashed Lyriq is significantly more than in the black and white speckled package.Using the camouflage alone, we can tell that Cadillac is working on a large, coupe-like electric crossover, but the details remain a mystery. The striking window line is completely obscured by the camouflage, and the wild rear taillights wrap around the massive rear pillar. The massive rear vane/pillar is an area where changes can also be seen on the Lyriq photos we've seen so far, as it looks like a huge blind spot for the driver.
Other notable differences include regular-sized wheels and tires, a possibly higher roofline (for more practical headroom and cargo space) and actual rear-view mirrors instead of rear-view mirrors.Doesn't all of this look too futuristic? Sure, but keep in mind that camouflage is there to cover and trick the eye.One element that seems completely forgotten is the huge screen inside. You can see the whole stretch from the distance to the dash.
It's likely that we'll soon have a wide variety of photos from one of our usual sources, with a much wider view.Samara's announcement in his role makes it clear that pre-production testing is being done at GM's test plant.Cadillac has previously said the Lyriq will go on sale in the second half of 2022, so expect to see more prototypes camouflaged before then.
