Jaguar Land Rover's output at two UK factories hit by chip shortages

Production at two of Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) UK car plants will be suspended from Mondaydue to supply chain disruptions, including a lack of semiconductors, the company said on Thursday.

The company, which is owned by Tata Motors, said: "We have adjusted the production schedule for certain vehicles, which means our Castle Bromwich and Hellerwood manufacturing plants will run a limited run from Monday 26 April. non-production period."

As people work from home, the pandemic has driven demand for semiconductor chips used in electronics such as computers, and suppliers are struggling to adjust, hitting output at many automakers.Trade flows have also been affected.

On Wednesday, automaker Stellantis said it would replace digital speedometers with more old-school analog gauges in its Peugeot models as the fallout continued.

Car production fell by tens of thousands in the first quarter due to shortages, Renault's finance chief said on Thursday.

Production will continue at Jaguar Land Rover's third UK car plant in Solihull, central England,the company said .

"We are working closely with the affected suppliers to resolve the issue and minimise the impact on customer orders as much as possible."
