According to foreign media reports, Volvo Cars said on July 8 that it will withdraw from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) by the end of 2022, citing differences between its zero-emission strategy and ACEA.

The Swedish carmaker has pledged to sell only pureelectric vehiclesby 2030 , well ahead of the European Union's proposal to effectively ban fossil-fuel vehicles from 2035.

Volvo has long been a proponent of fast-track zero-emission transport, but after the European Parliament voted in favour of a 2035 deadline in June, the ACEA said "at the very early stages we're currently in, any long-term focus beyond 2030 is unlikely. Regulations are immature."

Volvo Cars said in a statement: "We have concluded that Volvo Cars' sustainability strategy and ambitions are not fully aligned with ACEA's positioning and way of working at this stage. Therefore, we believe that the best option at this time is to go A different path. Everything we do as a business will play an important role in determining whether the world has a chance to curb climate change.”

Less than a month ago, Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest automaker, announced it would withdraw from the ACEA by the end of 2022, leaving its traditional lobbying efforts as part of a new approach to addressing future transportation problems and challenges.

ACEA has been the main lobbying group for the automotive industry since its inception in 1991, bringing together 16 of Europe's major car, truck, van and passenger car manufacturers.
